What is SprayGrade spray-applied liquid rubber?

SprayGrade is a two-component, water-based spray-applied liquid rubber system for commercial waterproofing. The two streams meet at the spray tip and cure almost instantly to form a seamless membrane that is waterproof, vapour-tight, airtight and gas-tight.

Who can apply SprayGrade?

SprayGrade requires specialist HVLP 2000 dual-feed equipment, correct preparation and trained application. Forti Nova supports contractor training, equipment and technical guidance, as well as project delivery through trained approved contractors.

How is SprayGrade different from HBS200?

SprayGrade is the separate two-component commercial spray system used for high-output large-area work. HBS200 is a single-component, hand-applied liquid rubber used for smaller areas, repairs and detailing. They must not be described as the same product.

How quickly does SprayGrade cure?

At around 20°C, SprayGrade is typically touch dry in approximately one minute and reaches full adhesion in approximately 48 hours. Conditions, substrate and specification can affect these timings.

What coverage creates a waterproof membrane?

Typical coverage is 1.35–2.7 kg/m² for an approximately 1–2 mm membrane. A common waterproofing specification is 2.7 kg/m² to produce approximately 2 mm, subject to the project specification.

Can SprayGrade be applied in any weather?

No. The minimum application temperature is 5°C. Do not apply to wet or frozen substrates, and avoid rain during application and early curing. Substrate preparation, primer choice and site conditions must be confirmed before work starts.

Application method

SprayGrade is specialist commercial equipment, preparation and application—not a paint-on DIY coating.

Survey and specify

Confirm roof condition, substrate compatibility, drainage, access, detailing and the correct primer or build-up before mobilisation.

Prepare the substrate

Clean and prepare a sound surface. Remove loose material, deal with contamination and do not apply to wet or frozen substrates.

Prime and detail

Use the specified primer and complete joints, penetrations, edges and changes of material before the field membrane is sprayed.

Dual-feed spray

The HVLP 2000 delivers the two components separately; they meet at the spray tip and form the membrane immediately on the surface.

Control coverage

Apply to the specified consumption. For an approximately 2 mm waterproof membrane, typical coverage is 2.7 kg/m².

Check continuity, details and coverage, then complete project records and warranty documentation where applicable.

Substrate and weather control

Compatible project substrates can include corrugated metal, asbestos cement, concrete, plywood, bituminous membranes, PVC and suitable insulation boards. Compatibility, preparation and primer choice must be confirmed for the actual build-up. Apply above 5°C to a correctly prepared substrate; do not apply to wet or frozen surfaces or when rain threatens application and early curing.

SprayGrade is engineered for large commercial and industrial roof areas where installation speed, membrane continuity and detail control are critical. The HVLP 2000 dual-feed process applies the separate components at the spray tip, creating a seamless membrane without sheet laps or mechanical fixings.

The cured membrane is waterproof, vapour-tight, airtight and gas-tight, with approximately 850% elongation and greater than 90% recovery. It is designed to accommodate movement while maintaining continuity across correctly prepared and detailed substrates.
