Quick answer

What is Liquid Rubber HBS200?

Liquid Rubber HBS200 is a single-component, water-based and solvent-free elastomeric bituminous emulsion supplied by Forti Nova from its Blackburn depot. Applied cold by brush, roller, squeegee or suitable spray equipment, it forms a seamless, flexible and fully adhered membrane for flat roofs, repairs, box gutters, penetrations, balconies and other complex details. A typical waterproofing system uses two coats at a total rate of approximately 2.7kg/m² to produce a 2mm membrane. HBS200 is distinct from SprayGrade, the separate two-component commercial spray system.

HBS200 is part of the Liquid Rubber waterproofing range. Forti Nova supplies the system and provides current product documentation, substrate guidance, training and project support.

Start with the problem

Liquid waterproofing shaped around the detail.

HBS200 is most valuable where continuity, adhesion and the ability to follow irregular geometry matter more than laying a large sheet membrane.

Flat Roof Waterproofing

A typical two-coat system for new and refurbishment flat roofs, applied at the specified total rate to create a seamless membrane.

Liquid Rubber HBS200 box gutters & outlets

Box Gutters & Outlets

Continuous waterproofing through gutter profiles, outlets and transitions, with geotextile reinforcement at cracks and changes of material.

Liquid Rubber HBS200 upstands & penetrations

Upstands & Penetrations

Brushable detailing around pipes, rooflights, parapets and roof-to-wall junctions where sheet membranes are harder to form.

Liquid Rubber HBS200 metal & zinc details

Metal & Zinc Details

Cold-applied protection to suitably prepared compatible metal and zinc surfaces, subject to specification and primer guidance.

Liquid Rubber HBS200 concrete, stone & timber

Concrete, Stone & Timber

A flexible waterproofing layer over clean, sound and dry concrete, stone and timber substrates prepared for the system.

Problem-solving waterproofing

Use HBS200 where the roof needs continuity.

The substrate must remain sound, clean and dry. HBS200 can avoid unnecessary strip-out on suitable roofs, but it should not be used to hide saturated, loose or structurally failed build-ups.

Problem: Leaking flat roof

Create a new seamless waterproof layer over a compatible, sound and correctly prepared existing surface.

Problem: Failed box gutter

Follow the entire gutter profile without sheet laps, reinforcing cracks, joints and material transitions with geotextile.

Problem: Leaking penetration

Form a continuous membrane around pipes, outlets, rooflights and irregular shapes.

Problem: Cracked or failed detail

Bridge the affected zone with geotextile embedded into the first wet coat before the full system is completed.

Problem: Cut edge corrosion detail

Seal suitably prepared exposed metal edges as part of a specified repair. For full metal-roof refurbishment, compare Prokol TopSpray35.

Problem: Complex roof-to-wall junction

Carry a flexible waterproof layer across compatible roof and upstand surfaces, following primer guidance where required.

Problem: Temporary standing water

Correctly applied HBS200 can tolerate temporary standing water, although positive drainage remains the recommended design approach.

Technical specification

The numbers that shape the system.

Use the correct total application rate and preparation for the intended performance. Conditions, substrate and detail design still matter.

Application method

Prepare, reinforce, coat and protect the cure.

HBS200 is simple to apply, but performance depends on preparation, thickness and reinforced detailing—not on coating over defects.

01

Prepare the substrate

Confirm the surface is clean, sound and dry. Remove contamination and deal with loose or failed material. Check whether primer is required.

02

Reinforce vulnerable details

Embed geotextile into the first wet coat at cracks, joints, changes of material and other movement-prone details.

03

Build the specified thickness

Apply the typical two-coat system by brush, roller, squeegee or suitable spray equipment to the required total rate.

04

Allow the membrane to cure

Keep the application above 5°C and protect it from rain. Touch dry is approximately one hour; full cure is approximately 24 hours depending on conditions.

Coverage guidance

Order from the specified membrane thickness.

Coverage is calculated from the total application rate, not from a generic number of coats. Allow separately for substrate texture, waste, detailing and reinforcement.

Choose the right waterproofing system

HBS200 vs EPDM vs SprayGrade.

The right system depends on geometry, substrate, size, access, application method and the condition of the existing roof.

Supply, support and documents

Product knowledge that follows the project.

Use the technical data, confirm the substrate and ask for project-specific support before the material is applied.

Substrate compatibility

Suitable substrates include concrete, stone, metal, bitumen, timber, PVC and zinc when correctly prepared. EPDM requires the appropriate primer. Weathered or unusual surfaces should be checked before specification.
